I tested the iPad Pro while playing games, encoding videos, watching YouTube and browsing the internet. If you are a content creator who needs to transfer files and edit on the go, the iPad Pro 2021 can handle everything you throw at it.įinally, the 11-inch iPad Pro can last about 10 hours on a single charge which is about what I got from my usage as well. You can use the port to use a secondary display (up to 4K), charge other devices such as your iPhone and connect USB Hubs for reading storage devices such as SSDs, Flash Drives and SD cards. The USB-C port on the 2021 iPad Pro is also the most versatile one as it supports Thunderbolt 3 and USB 4. In a casual test on Premiere Rush, the 2021 iPad Pro converted a 4K video to 1080p in 5:28 minutes. The iPad Pro scored 1720 (single-core) and 7291 (multi-core), which is significantly higher than the 2020 iPad Pro. I ran a simple Geekbench 5 test and was floored with the scores the M1 chip yielded. Our M1 iPad Pro came with 16GB of RAM which is probably more than what you have on your laptop. In most games, iPad Pro was able to efficiently handle high-resolution textures without having any drastic impact on the battery life. You can even connect the DualSense or the Xbox controller to play games. In fact, it felt like I was playing console-level games on a portable PlayStation 4 console. The case remains the same when handling extra-large image files which the M1 iPad Pro can handle easily.įor gamers, titles like Divinity: Original Sin, GRID AutoSport and Genshin Impact run without any hiccups, crashes or even frame rate drops. When handling 4K videos, you will instantly notice the efficient performance when you export a project file. You will most notice it when you try to use large video and image files in editing apps like Adobe Premiere Lightroom or Affinity. That is mostly true but you won’t notice the difference if you plan on using it for social media browsing, viewing content on Apple TV or while playing mobile games. Performanceīeing powered with the M1 chip, you would expect the iPad Pro to be super powerful and efficient. The iPad Pro 2021 also has the ProMotion feature where it automatically adjusts the refresh rate between 24Hz and 120Hz to conserve battery life. The keyboard is also backlit like the MacBook Pro laptops so that you can use it in darkness or dimly lit rooms.įor graphic designers and gamers, the display also supports up to 120Hz refresh rate which means you can experience smooth performance while editing videos/images or playing games. The new Magic Keyboard has a trackpad for easier navigation and works in tandem with iPadOS. Lastly, for people who are looking to replace their laptops with an iPad Pro, you can also attach the Magic Keyboard and use it as a normal laptop. At the back, you will find a triple-camera module that consists of a 12MP Ultra-Wide camera on the front, a 12MP Wide camera and a 10MP Ultra-Wide camera. The iPad Pro’s design hasn’t changed much with the same rounded corner and a magnetic side where you can attach an Apple Pencil. For people who love to watch movies and TV shows, the display also supports HDR and Dolby Vision content. The display’s colour calibration is on-point where Apple has prioritised colour, brightness, gimme and white point have been tuned perfectly. The display also has an anti-reflective coating which means you won’t find it difficult to use under harsh lights. The front design of the display has not changed much from last year’s iPad Pro where the screen stretches edge-to-edge with slight bezels. Having said that, the 11-inch iPad Pro is still a high-end panel that has a resolution of 2,388 X 1,668 pixels and can deliver almost four million pixels. While its bigger brother has the Retina XDR display which uses a Mini-LED backlight, the one I am using is its smaller brethren that doesn’t come with the new fancy screen. I’ve been using the M1 iPad Pro for the past two weeks to find out how much of a difference the new chipset makes. We’ve already seen the chipset in action on the latest MacBook Pro but now one can also use it on a tablet. The iPad Pro lineup already put most office laptops to shame but this year Apple has gone ahead and widened the gap with its new M1 chip.
